Skill & Knowledge Casino Games
Casinos have been around for a long time, and they have become an important and widely-recognised part of the modern world. Today, you would be able to find casinos in just about every country in the world, and while each one is different in its own way, they all have one common theme: the casino games. The games found in casinos, both land-based and online, come in just about every shape and size, but generally are only found in two categories: chance and skill.
This may not seem like a big difference, but it’s enough to create two entirely different genres of game that have their own audiences. All games in gambling include a certain amount of chance, which is what differentiates simple games of entertainment to games that players can use to win or lose money. As far as games of chance are concerned, there is one in particular that sticks out: slots.
Slots provide an environment for players that are 100% fair, meaning that everyone playing has the same chance of winning. And that chance is completely at random, meaning that slot machines require no skill, no experience, and can be played at leisure. Other games, however, do require a certain degree of skill to play, and some even spend years perfecting strategies and methods to become better at the game and increase their odds of walking away as a winner.

Games of Skill:
- Poker: Poker, for over 100 years, has been one of the most popular card games in the world. Poker is extremely hard to learn and next to impossible to truly master. Becoming a professional poker player takes years of practice, trial and error, and an extraordinary amount of patience. It does pay off, however, as the top poker championships can pay out in the millions.
- Blackjack: Another card game, and one that took the casino world by storm, blackjack is a favourite among countless enthusiasts, and is more often than not the game you’ll first encounter in a casino. While blackjack is mostly a game of chance, there are some ways of improving the odds, but it can take years of experience to learn how to do this effectively.
- Video Poker: Video poker is the electronic counterpart to the game of poker, and comes in a range of different types. The rules of video poker are the same as normal poker, with the exception that you are playing it on a screen. Despite this, there are methods that many players employ to bettering the odds against the machines, and some even swear by getting 100% return rates on machines.
Arguable Skill-Based Games
There are some other games offered by casinos that may be considered as skill-based, and for the most part, it is up to the player to decide. Roulette, for example, is technically a game of chance, where the player can land on any number at random. Experienced players, though, argue that some numbers land more often, and that it is possible to learn ways to improve the chances of landing on a certain number.
The same applies to casino games like craps and bingo, and while there is some debate as to whether there is any skill involved, they are still deemed as chance-based games by technicality.
